What color curtains should we choose?

The walls in our apartment are painted beige. We just got a beautiful bedding set from Bed, Bath, & Beyond that is gold and brown. The set came with pretty valences to match. We would like our ascent colors to be Burgundy/red and cream.

We definitely want blinds to go with the valences.

Should we have curtains, and if so, what color?
My fiance was thinking red curtains (with the gold/brown valences), but I don’t think that would look right. Is it a definite no?

      I LOVE COLORS THAT STAND OUT
      SO I WOULD CHOSE WHITE
      OR CREAM TYPE OF CURTAINS

      I think lighter colors like white, cream, beige or even lighter golden/yellow would look nice.
